Phat Fiber February 2011 Samples

I've been terribly busy and I have lots of older stuff to post but I figured if I don't just jump into current stuff I'll never catch up so here goes!

These are my Phat Fiber Box samples for February 2011, the theme is Gems & Minerals. I did 5 different batt colorways. Each sample also includes a matching Lloopie Gemstone Stitchmarker.

Amethyst & Silver:

Turquoise & Copper:

Moonstone:

Fancy Jasper:

Tiger's Eye:

One lucky person gets this small Llayover Tote in their Phat Fiber Box:

Full-sized versions will be available on the shop soon.

I've been having a blast participating in the Phat Fiber Box. All my fellow Phatties are so supportive and inspiring! Jessie and Marcus, the people who organize and run Phat Fiber, are just the most amazing people for bringing this all together every month!

Check out my Flickr Stream for more photos of my samples.

  1. Hello there! I just received my first Phat Fiber box and one of your fantastic Tiger's Eye batts was inside. I had to go watch the video again to figure out who created such a beautiful batt because the tag was missing. I'm glad I found you! Thank you! I'm a new spinner and yours will be the first batt I ever spin. I love the color, the softness, the way it shimmers. Everything!

  3. I appreciate the link!

Being new to the fiber arts, I am just beginning to learn about the different types of fiber and their properties. That's why I ordered the box - I am a hands on learner and book descriptions don't do the fibers justice. I need to touch them and see how they behave when I'm spinning. Up till now I've only spun wool from my neighbor's sheep (not a spinning flock, mutton), BFL, Corriedale, and some silk hankies.

Would you mind sharing what kind of fibers are in my batt? Is this llama? Is there wool in the batt? What is the shiny, slippery, lighter colored fiber? Thanks for helping me learn!

  4. Exploring new sheep breeds and fibers is so much fun!

The Tiger's Eye Batt is made from Superwash Merino and Tussah Silk. The superwash means the fiber has been treated to resist felting and Merino is a sheep breed. Tussah silk is silk that is made by wild silk worms as opposed to domesticated ones.

I love spreading knowledge and continuing to learn about fiber arts so if you ever have any questions feel free to ask away!
